Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Pittsburgh Employee (s), Alleged Theft, and Inappropriately Sized Water Heater Installed

Another reason why people should avoid calling Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh has been discovered on The BBB's website:  Missing Money From A Customer's Wallet & Incompetence

BBB found business made good faith effort to resolve complaint but customer not satisfied with business response (11 complaints)

Additional Notes

Complaint: Called Mr Rooter Plumbing to install 50 gallon hot water heater. After employee left it was discovered that $100-$110 was stolen from wallet laying on table where employee passed several times in and out of the house to secure tools/materials from his truck. Called Mr Rooter and was told three times that someone would call me about the matter and no one returned my calls. Reported incident to the Whitehall Police Dept and they took a report and found that employee had multiple criminal activities on his record. Employee denied stealing the money but no one other than employee and family members were in the residence since the money was last seen. Secondly after the hot water heater was installed the Whitehall Fire Dept found that there were two gas leaks on a pipe installed and that the pipe installed was not to code. Whitehall Fire Dept called Mr Rooter Plumbing and asked them to come and make repairs as the gas to the tank had to be shut off for health/safety reasons. A different repair man was sent and installed the correct pipe (to code) and also found that another pipe should have been replaced as it was not to code and he replaced that pipe also. I am disappointed that a national company would send an employee that has a criminal record to any customer's residence or place of business and not inform them of the employee's criminal record. The $100-$110 belonged to my 13 year old daughter who worked hard to save the money. I should not have to worry about a repair person coming into my house and stealing. Secondly if I am paying someone to provide a service it should be done correctly with the correct materials. Fortunately the gas leak did not cause injury to any family members or result in an explosion. The last item I wanted to mention was that I was told they could replace the 50 gallon tank with another 50 gallon tank. A 40 gallon tank was installed. I have been unable to find out why a 40 gallon tank was installed when a 50 gallon tank was requested.
Desired Settlement: I would like to be reimbursed the $100-$110 that is missing. I would also like to know why a 40 gallon tank was installed when a 50 gallon tank was requested and if I was charged the appropriate price since a smaller tank was installed. I was charged $1,143.75 for the installation work. I would like to be reimbursed monetarily for the inconvenience it caused and the poor service provided by installing the tank improperly with two pipes that were not to code.
Business Response:
This is a response to the complaint ID #*******. It is alleged that our employee may have taken cash from the home. After speaking with the customer, she was advised to contact her local police department which she stated she has. It is now in the hands of the police. We are not in charge of this case any further.

In regards to the issues with pipes installed to code on the water heater, a second technician was dispatched and resolved that issue the same day.

In regards to controversy over 40 or 50 gallon water heater installation, the customer was charged for a 40-gallon water heater and gave us the authorization signature to install a 40-gallon water heater. A second 100% satisfied signature was received authorizing that she received a 40-gallon water heater to her satisfaction.

In conclusion, the the alleged stolen money is in the police department’s hands. All pipe corrections have been made and water heater is installed per code. We consider this matter 100% resolved.

Thank you,

Riverside Co. Dumps Crooked Dwyer Group (Mr. Rooter Parent Company) For $150 Million

I ran across an interesting article which highlights just how shady The Dwyer Group's business practices come off as.  There is a link to the article below.  There is no peace of mind when choosing the service brands under The Dwyer Group...The Dwyer Group, themselves, can't even come up with a statement to the public why choosing one of their service brands wouldn't be a risk.

Mr. Rooter LLC Continues To Repeatedly Dismiss Consumer Complaints! Mr. Rooter LLC & The Dwyer Group Can't Be Trusted!

If you go to Mr. Rooter LLC's Facebook page, you will find that they have deleted complaints of their so-called "valued customers" yet again in the last 24-48 hours.  Mr. Rooter LLC couldn't even extend them the courtesy of responding to their complaints.

So, if you choose a Mr. Rooter location and have an issue that arises, it is HIGHLY likely that your problem will be promptly ignored without any resolution at all being offered by either the local franchise or corporate office.  Dealing with this company is riskier than throwing any money you have into the stock market.

Below, I've re-posted the conversations that Mr. Rooter LLC has deleted from their Facebook page so that you can have access to authentic, raw reviews and conversations about people's experiences with this company:

Interesting Conversation On The Dwyer Group Facebook Page

What an interesting conversation that occurred on The Dwyer Group's Facebook page that has sadly been deleted by their moderator (in part at the time of this post but most likely full in the near future because that is a typical response to any form of dissent).  It was probably deleted because they don't want anyone to read and learn about one of their deep dark secrets which entails something along the lines that they don't really care about the consumer or in what manner their brand franchisees and their employees are making their money which is ultimately arrives into The Dwyer Group (and its investment company) and their own personal bank accounts.  So, The Dwyer Group couldn't even come up with ONE advantage there is to choosing a franchisee of one of their service brands or describe what peace-of-mind consumers can count on?  That response is revealing.  The conversation below was a civil conversation in response explaining an expressed point of view:

Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh has an "F" rating with the BBB. Surprised? I'm not.

Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh didn't even have the decency to respond to the newest complaint submitted to the BBB:

Additional Notes

Complaint: Mr Rooter was supposed to clear a clog in the drain of our toilet. They stated they had to break the toilet to get at the clog then they had to replace the toilet, then they had to replace the water shut off valve, then they had to replace the pipe flange to fix the problem. This took 5 hours, When they left it was supposed to be fixed, The next morning after flushing the toilet the water backed up and came through the ceiling in the kitchen, soaking the plaster, the cabinets, stove, floor and cabinet contents. When Mr Rooter was called they said they would send someone out ASAP, 4 hours later the same plumbers that caused the problem returned and ran a snake down the pipe again to clear the blockage. ***** **** the plumber admitted they used the wrong parts to fix it the first time and said that it was their fault. As he was leaving he said they worked with a disaster recovery firm and he would have them contact us about repairing the damage. To date no one has contacted us even after several e-mails.

Desired Settlement: Because the original repair was not correct and caused more damage we would like the cost of the repair refunded and them to reimburse us for the damage done

BBB's Final Determination: Business failed to respond to the BBB to resolve or address the complaint issues.

MY PERSONAL OPINION

When I read other people's complaints about any Mr. Rooter location, it is pretty much like reliving the nightmare that I was involved in and witness to - wishing that something could be done to stop the unscrupulous business practices implemented by The Dwyer Group, Mr. Rooter Corporation, Mr. Rooter franchisees, and franchisees under Mr. Rooter's 6 other "sister" brands.

I can see in the BBB complaint where Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh employees demonstrated their incompetence at being able to resolve the issue of a clogged toilet drain as well as their inability to reset a toilet properly.  The incompetence demonstrated by Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh employees caused unnecessary damage to the poor homeowner's property; yet, Mr. Rooter has turned their back on the homeowner because they have no intention of loosing any money (whether it was their mistake or not) and, of course, are too busy lying to other unsuspecting consumers seeking a "professional" assessment and resolution to plumbing issues.

THEY TOOK THIS HOMEOWNER'S MONEY, NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM, DESTROYED THE PROPERTY, AND HAVE REFUSED TO MAKE IT RIGHT!

What disturbs me most about this BBB complaint is that the Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh employees screwed up and then told the homeowner that they worked with a disaster recovery firm and that they would have them contact the homeowner about repairing the damage.  Countywide Plumbing and Restoration (http://www.bbb.org/pittsburgh/Business-Reviews/plumbers/countywide-plumbing-and-restoration-in-cranberry-twp-pa-71005952) is the "disaster recover firm" owned by the same person who also owns Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh/Youngstown/Dayton with the same employees that already damaged the home.  Can we say...Bait and Switch Scam?  It sure looks like it to me.  Another name they could be going under is another Dwyer Group Brand - Rainbow International  (http://www.bbb.org/pittsburgh/business-reviews/building-restoration-and-preservation/rainbow-international-in-cranberry-twp-pa-57000264).

THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THEM FROM TAKING ADVANTAGE OF CONSUMERS IS TO STOP THEIR INCOME STREAM BY NOT CALLING THEM - BY BOYCOTTING THEM!  THEY WILL EITHER IMPROVE THEIR BUSINESS PRACTICES OR SINK!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

*UPDATE*  It looks like they could be at least responding to the BBB complaint listed above according to the BBB website.  I hope that this poor consumer, unlike my Mother and many others out there, gets fair compensation for the damage that they caused.

Also owned by the same individual who owns the Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh franchise, Mr. Rooter of Youngstown has an "F" rating with the BBB.  Mr. Rooter of Youngstown has not bothered to respond to 4 complaints submitted to the BBB.  4!!!!  Mr. Beall's claims of being dedicated to delivering World Class Customer Service appear, at least to me,  to be a misleading statement directed to consumers.  This behavior is unethical and should be brought to the public's attention so that they can take steps to protect themselves.

Mr. Rooter Corporation Facebook Alters Conversation Among Consumers On Their Facebook Page To Paint Themselves In A False Light

To me, it is obvious that the people employed at Mr. Rooter Corporation do no appear to understand what ethical business practices are and how to implement them.  They even go against the advice of the social media articles posted on The Dwyer Group's Facebook page.  How a business does or does not respond to their consumers is a sure sign of the quality of the products and services you can expect to receive from them.  No one is on the same page in that organization -  not even a little bit.  Even the moderator for their Facebook page liked a comment, which was promptly deleted.  Only some of the conversation remains which does not provide a true and correct picture of the process that occurred which is not fair toward the consumer that was being targeted.  The actual conversation that took place is below from the latest comments first to the earliest comments last:
