Ex-Employees of Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh - Insiders Reveal Their Experiences

Personally, I believe that what I have come across online regularly occurs at Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh because I have personally witnessed some of the behaviors mentioned, first-hand.  Proof of their workmanship and their Breach of Contract have been furnished both to them and publicly; yet, they continue to do nothing.  My Mother paid to be a value customer, but she is not and never was a valued customer because the local and corporate Mr. Rooter locations have ignored her requests (and my requests on her behalf) and continue to ignore her requests (and my requests on her behalf)  involving Mr. Rooter choosing to make what they did to my Mother right.

This is a post from an ex-employee who posted on Rip Off Report just 3 months before we picked up the phone in search of a plumber to address our sewage backup.  Below is what the ex-employee had to say:

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

huge rip off artists

although they give up front prices, their prices are double and sometimes triple what they could and should be. also, they send guys to a house with a main drain clog with a machine they know WILL NOT get the clog. why you may ask, because they want you to pay for another guy to camera the line so he can tell you that it is broke and needs dug up and replaced at a price of thousands. any reputable plumber will tell you that over 90% of the drains under ground DO NOT need dug up and replaced. they are no better then the other major rip off GILEECE. their guys are ALL paid ONLY commision, if they dont work they dont get paid. the more you pay the more they make. its all a numbers game, the guys have to get as much out of you as they can because they dont know if they will make anything else or not. call a company that will give you a price over the phone, you will be way better off and will pay so much less.

as far as the senior, he should have paid no more then $500 to have that work done, including all materials and the faucet.

also, they hire people with ZERO plumbing experience. the law says anyone can work as a plumber as long as they work FOR a master plumber. very few guys at mr rooter actually have a license. the guys that do, hate being there but have very little options, they need to work and need the paycheck. blame the owner and management, most of the guys have dont like the prices either but have no choice.

DONT FAULT THE WORKERS,FAULT THE OWNERS!!!!!

Also, before the current owner of Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh came to the Pittsburgh area from Ohio, he owned B & C plumbing.  A former employee from that company had this to say about working for Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh's owner in Cleveland, Ohio:

Bob Beall is a total scumbag, I know this because I worked for him at B&C Plumbing in Cleveland, OH. This fat, blind (he is legally blind) dick would do anything possible to squeeze money out of anyone possible; there were weeks I was never paid for and actually had his nasty wife (Carol) laugh at me about it. He doesn't have any credit with any of the supply houses in the area he works in and is forced to deal with a supply house in the Cleveland area based upon his fathers good name (his dad is a good guy, I wonder what went wrong).

The only concern this man has is separating you from your money, not providing a service.

Luckily I found a decent company to work for (the oldest in the area he started in) and don't have to worry about dealing with dirtbags like him anymore.

Additionally, Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh's owner doesn't seem like its the greatest place to work.  I know from first-hand experience dealing with them that it isn't the greatest place to be a customer or the daughter of a customer.  Here is what this employee had to say about what it is like to work there:

http://www.indeed.com/cmp/Mr.-Rooter-Plumbing/reviews

I highly recommend doing a court docket search on employees in your area before you enter into contract or allow them to do any work.  I did a court docket search on the employees that I knew worked at the Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh location (probably Youngstown too because it is close to their location in Cranberry) and who have contacted me.  The results of that search confirmed, to me, the type of value system the employees that were in our home making misrepresentations, breaching contracts, and not delivering quality workmanship have.  Everyone makes mistakes, but my concern is the repeated offenses and the type of offenses.

Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh claims that their employees go through extensive background checks; yet, all they require is a clean driving record and a drug screening:

http://www.youferral.com/jobpost/show/8588800-mr-rooter-plumbing-now-hiring-pittsburgh-area

The bottom line is that I hope that consumers will do their homework before making a decision that you might possibly regret.

Mr. Rooter Plumbing and Owner Robert "Bob" A. Beall is reportedly the owner of the following locations:

Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh

Mr. Rooter of Youngstown
Mr. Rooter of Dayton
Mr. Rooter of Weirton

Recently, this website refers to this owner's businesses above:  http://www.plumbing-pittsburgh.com - an umbrella for all of the areas that he has declared to be officially serving; however, I recall them serving Ohio before they had officially bought the area.

Technically, there have been several different websites they have used to switch things up and get search engines to bury the truth about their unethical business practices which have been reported by myself, other consumers, and even their former employees:  False Advertising; Breach of Contract, Shoddy Workmanship; and Nearly Non-Existent Customer Service.

Proof of Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh's Breach of Contract

I felt that it was fair to write a post showing readers evidence of the Breach of Contract that Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh, Mr. Rooter Corporation, and The Dwyer Group have refused to recognize or be willing to resolve.

Below is the invoice, which outlines how far they were supposed to come to the main sewer line:

Due to the fact that is hard to read, even in-person, I will re-state the contents of the invoice:

"replace outside sewer stopping 2' shy of main.  bed oil pipe in gravel.  additional cost 9500.  prior cost 10,000. new job total 19,500.  all cost are cpp discounted.  installing new toilet no charge due to ccp membership.  paying 9500 by check."

They never replaced the sewer line.  They did not come within 2' or less of the main sewer line as evident by an independent video inspection.  There was gravel, but the oil pipe was not imbedded in it, rather it was inserted into the existing lateral sewer line.  The $5200 price was not cpp discounted, so the statement that they installed a new toilet at no charge due to ccp membership is a blatent lie.

Since the video file is so large, I took a photo of the video at the 6-foot mark that shows the A-1 Sewer technician arriving at the main sewer line from the "T" in our lateral sewer line that Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh stopped at.

6 feet of terra cotta pipe from the main  MINUS 2 feet from the main where Mr. Rooter was contracted to stop work at EQUALS a 4 foot BREACH OF CONTRACT.

You know, a breach of contract is serious; yet, Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh, Mr. Rooter Corporation, and The Dwyer Group go against their advertised promises by ignoring my Mother's requests and my requests on my Mother's behalf to make right the very wrong situation they left her in.

Their breached caused approximately $2,000 in personal property loss because, had they went to the point they were supposed to, we would have never experienced that backup.

Here is a video at the time of the breach of contract: (I have one with audio, but you might need to go to the first blog post in may to hear my reaction)

Do you want to do business with a company who won't stand behind their advertised claims?  Do you want to do business with a company who will ignore hard core evidence that they breached their contract and that the municipal authority serviced us after Mr. Rooter demonstrated incompetence, where the employee even told us that they were not capable of solving the issue because their equipment wasn't good enough? ....An issue involving drain cleaning - a service they advertise they can do?

Should Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh, Mr. Rooter Corporation, and The Dwyer Group continue to ignore the unethical business practices that were implemented during my Mother's dates of service, I will be certain to update accordingly.  I will also update in the event Mr. Rooter "reconsiders" implementing ethical business practices.

To date, my Mother has been waiting 19 months for Mr. Rooter to behave in a honest and ethical manner.  Do you think Mr. Rooter will reconsider her position and behave in a honest and ethical manner with their customer - the one they took advantage of?

(UPDATE:  It is May 16, 2016.  They have NEVER contacted my Mother.  The only contact they have had with me has been online three times.  They have claimed to be willing to discuss resolution three different times and have refused to respond to the messages sent to them that they asked to be sent.  In November of 2012, they filed a defamation suit against me for $100,000 claiming that the truth and all the evidence that I have provided, in addition to my opinions, are false and defamatory.  They left the defamation suit sit there for 3 1/2 years and have recently filed an objection against administrative dismissal of the dormant case and have paid money for a jury trial.  A civil action equity lawsuit in July of 2015, which I did not find out about until recently, was filed against me - This lawsuit is a joke because I was willing to allow them to bully me to remove the truth and my opinions in exchange for release from the defamation suit back in November of 2012 because I did not have tens of thousands of dollars to obtain a lawyer to present my defense; however, they never responded and, reasonably, one can conclude that they did not accept my offer to post a neutral statement - especially, after they publicly accused me of defaming Bob Beall's character when I posted to help them remove the Angie's List brand infringement they engaged in from their Rooter Media Twitter page - which is still there by the way along with the evidence that I provided confirming that they had no right to post the award, with them publicly claiming they had no right to post the award.  Apparently, I am being required to change my opinion about them; thus, they are suing me for my opinion.  Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh has taken to using the courts to bully consumers and I am their test case - a test to see if businesses can take away the rights of consumers to leave honest feedback about their experiences with businesses online and how much of the 1st Amendment rights can be taken away from citizens of the USA.  I have every right to talk about what I personally experience or witness and to form opinions and conclusions.  Besides, my personal property was destroyed during the backup that should have NEVER happened as well and I never included my losses in the price mentioned above - memories of my late Father destroyed that I can never get back and couldn't possibly attach a number to.  Is the content within this blog negative, yes.  Is the content false?  Absolutely not.  My opinions and conclusions/personal judgements, no matter how negative, are not actionable!)

If Mr. Rooter wronged you, ignored you, and never made it right...Then, send your story to all local news stations!

In Pittsburgh, there were so many complaints pouring into WTAE about Gillece that they conducted multiple investigations.

I believe that our unresolved complaints about Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh/Youngstown/Dayton/Other Locations should be forwarded directly to investigative news teams.  If investigative news teams receive a significant number of complaints about a company, then, perhaps, they would be interested in running a story to warn the viewing public how not to become a victim of Mr. Rooter's tactics:  taking money, never fixing the problem, destroying property, and refusing to make it right.

July 16 2013 : Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh Removes & Ignores Complaints From Their Customers

Below are copies of what was posted on Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh's Facebook Page today, July 16, 2013 by customers who have been wronged where almost all of the posts from these individuals have been deleted.

Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh does not value the opinions of their customers (former, current, or potential).  If they did value the opinions of their customers, then there would have been a response towards some sort of resolution instead of DELETING the pleas of unsatisfied customers.  "World Class Customer Service?!?"  Hardly!  This behavior confirms, at least for me, that once Mr. Rooter gets your money upfront, they don't care what happens after they have money in-hand.  Using Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh is a HUGE risk many people today can't afford to take.  I find that choosing to use a Mr. Rooter franchise or any of their sister companies is riskier than investing in the stock market.

Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh Social Media Representative Unprofessional and Used Profanity

As a representative of Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh, the "Social Media Consultant," as she refers to herself, recently deleted what I believe to have been an unprofessional and profane response to a consumer.  Even though Mr. Rooter Corporation delivers their automated and impersonal responses to people who post complaints or negative feedback and in extremely rare cases positive feedback, at least their responses on their social media networking sites are always professional.  Get Mr. Rooter Corporation on the phone, though, and they behave in a completely unprofessional manner.

As you review the exchange between Greg Newton and Debra Fischer-Santavicca, with all of the other possible words to choose out there, she was not capable of replacing the word, "Shitty" with something less profane like "Crappy?"

"It's best to call an expert, not a parrot?"  So, she is publicly referring to Mr. Rooter being "experts" and Gillece as not being experts - engaging in defamatory behavior.  Perhaps, Gillece should include Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh in their lawsuit as a competitor tarnishing their "stellar" reputation...

Personally, I would never call any of the three large companies serving Pittsburgh (Mr. Rooter, Gillece, and Roto-Rooter) based on everything that I have been witness to both directly and indirectly with Mr. Rooter as well as reading and hearing in-person all of the horror stories.  Mr. Rooter, Gillece, and Roto-Rooter all charge way too much with people often finding themselves poorer and still experiencing the same problem with no offer from the companies to make it right.

Mr. Rooter is the SECOND largest....NOT the largest...That is still Roto-Rooter based on my research.

Is Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh capable of telling the truth? Considering that Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh still has the defamatory statement on both of their twitter feeds reporting that they are recipients of the Angie's List Super Service Award when I have emails from Angie's List confirming that they NEVER received the 2012 Angie's List Super Service Award and there is an active brand infringement case open, that would be a resounding "NO!"

Can Consumers Trust Any Businesses Today? Rarely...

So, earlier today, I listened to a Radio Show featuring Mary Kennedy Thompson and another franchisee.  It was like listening to one of those infomercial schemes featuring Mr. Rooter and The Dwyer Group.  The statements that Mary Kennedy Thompson made during the broadcast were alarmingly inaccurate with regard to how Mr. Rooter Corporation and at least the franchisee owner in Pittsburgh behaves.

Why would "Mrs. Rooter's" inaccurate statements shock me as I should be used to them by now.  In January of 2013, Mr. Rooter Corporation made the decision to send defamatory press releases, which infringed upon the Angie's List Brand, to ALL of their franchisees - even though not all of their franchisees were recipients of the 2012 Angie's List Super Service Award.  In fact, I would not trust ANY Mr. Rooter Plumbing location who is falsely reporting themselves as Angie's List Award Recipients and, personally, I would mark them as dishonest.

Ironically, the legally blind franchisee, who is Mr. Rooter's second largest grossing franchisee as mentioned by Mary Kennedy Thompson, is the same franchisee who appears content with the behavior of his business towards my Mother and other consumers in the Pittsburgh area:  fraudulent misrepresentation/deception, breech of contract, shoddy workmanship, etc. in our situation.

I should have known that businesses stick together no matter how unscrupulous the business' behavior actually is.  Mary Kennedy Thompson talks about how important is to do the right thing, even though Mr. Rooter Corporation's general policy is to do nothing.   Mr. Rooter barely flies straight, let alone above the line....They still have not done the right thing even though we have waved proof of breach of contract in front of them.

I expected nothing less than my comment on the radio broadcast getting deleted in response to what I believe to be inaccurate content because this radio broadcast was probably created and intended as a paid advertisement or PR stint for Mr. Rooter...stating the facts or opinions are irrelevant, apparently:  Deception AND Dirt Swept Under The Rug kind of behavior in the limelight....

Here is the link to the Radio Broadcast, appropriately titled "Mr. Rooter and Veteran Entrepreneurs Clean Up."  What a curious title, isn't it?  So, Mr. Rooter's motto is to clean up consumers' bank accounts and not deliver the products and services promised - at least that is what my Mother and I have concluded?

http://fromboots2biz.businessradiox.com/2013/07/11/mr-rooter-and-veteran-entrepreneurs-clean-up/

Here is the comment that I posted which was in moderation, but was obviously not given the green light.  Since this is my voice, I am giving it the green light.  I guess only if you agree with content this website then you are given the right of passage.  Sort of reminds me of a dictatorship...

Mr. Rooter Uses Plumbing Emergencies To Take Advantage Of Consumers!

Considering that Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh/Mr. Rooter Corporation took my Mother's money, didn't fix her plumbing emergency, destroyed her home, and have refused to make it right AND that I have come across online accounts written by others explaining that this type of behavior occurs in a relatively regular manner with Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh/Mr. Rooter Corporation and other Mr. Rooter locations...It is reasonable for me to be concerned about the welfare of all consumers, especially those consumers located in the Pittsburgh area.

My concern is that residents of Pittsburgh are currently victims of severe flooding.  An announcement from a Mr. Rooter employee on their Facebook page communicates to me that, if they are truly as busy as she claims, there are a substantial number of people getting taken advantage of today.

Please Remember:

1)  NEVER agree to sign the emergency forms that they present you with even if it is an emergency because the protections afforded to you by the FTC and the Attorney General will be forfeited!

2)  Have more witnesses than employees because you will need them for court since they are typically not willing to come to the table and do the right thing without legally being forced to do so (liens on their business if a judgement isn't paid, etc.).

3)  Make sure the contract reflects the contractual requirements outlined by the PA Attorney General's Office.

3)  Stay in a hotel and call around to other reputable plumbers and restoration specialists because, in the long run, the wait will be significantly more cost effective.

4)  Do research before considering jumping into any contractual agreements with Mr. Rooter similar to the consumer who posted a review on Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh's YellowPages ad.

Our Informative Mr. Rooter T-Shirts & Bumper Stickers Will Be Here Soon!

Our Informative Mr. Rooter T-Shirts & Bumper Stickers

Will Be Here Soon - Around July 8, 2013!

It took months to save up for these t-shirts after Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh, essentially, robbed my Mother blind.  Mostly, the t-shirts were purchased so that we had something nice to wear out in public after Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh breeched their contract which caused sewage to backup into our basement and destroyed a majority of our clothing, coats, tools, etc.  The other purpose of the t-shirts and the bumper stickers were to provide a public service intended to warn others about what they can most likely expect from doing business with our local Mr. Rooter.

In our experience, the following statements are facts and can be supported by evidence:

Fact:  They will take your money
Fact:  They will not fix your problem
Fact:  They will destroy your property
Fact:  They refuse to make it right
